Computer I Google Chrome Unit
Google + and Chrome Review
Follow along with this tutorial. You can stop at 9:33.
Create/Update your Google+ profile. Pause and complete as you go.
Make sure you have a profile picture and add info you wish. Check to see what is public and what is not. For example I have my birthdate as private. Create a circle with our class including me. SEARCH BY EMAIL IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE FINDING CLASSMATES. Check out the Communities section and choose some to add that are of interest to you. * Do not subscribe to jokes of the day etc. Search for Google and add one of their communities as well.
Share a post answering the following questions to our circle only:
First, take a screenshot of your profile page and add it to your post. (Screenshot Command, Shift 4 and draw the screenshot then it will save the image to your desktop.)
Next answer these ?'s. Do you like Google+ interface ? How is it different from Facebook? (If you do not have Facebook just tell me that) How do you currently use Google+? Tell me about 2 feeds/communities you found to subscribe to and why.
POST TO OUR CIRCLE ONLY - NOT PUBLIC!!!!
ALL GOOGLE+ ASSIGNMENTS/POSTS NEED TO BE IN ONE POST FOR EACH ASSIGNMENT -share and go back and edit if you do not finish
Email Etiquette Review
Assignment: Send me an email telling me why it is important to use proper email format and etiquette. If you do no have one create a signature in your email. Go to the gear wheel and choose settings, General. Check your signature on your mobile device as well.
If you want your signature to have a special font color that is fine just make sure it is not hard to read.
Anson Alex - Gmail 2016 Quick Start (17 min)
Watch this entire video. Pause and check out your own settings as needed. DO NOT turn off conversation view or remove the social and promotions inbox unless you want to remove a lot of junk out of your important emails. You can change your theme or background of your email in your gear wheel and choose themes.
Sending and Receiving Messages
Sending and Receiving Messages (12:51)
You will be sending and replying to emails today. After completing the video compose an email to the person to your right. Pretend like the person you are writing has not seen the video.
Explain to them the steps in creating and sending an email. Use proper email etiquette as well. Include a hyperlink to the video you watched so the person you are emailing can refer back to it if they wish. The text should read something like....please click here to see the full video.....or check out the video at AnsonAlex.com. I do not want to see a URL (http://www...)
You also need to practice adding a picture to your email so search the web for Gmail icons and insert using the weblink option by clicking on VIEW IMAGE link. Do not copy and paste (picture will not show up). Keep searching if your site for "View Original Image" is blocked.
You also need to reply back to the person who sent you the email and thank them for the information. Add whatever comments you like about the video and send.
Finally, you need to forward me the last email with replies that YOU created with a new subject line to remove the Forwarded Message subject. Your subject line can be Email Assignment or something similar. Send it to me. Make sure you forwarded the entire conversation not just the reply. It would also be nice to include a short message to me about what you are forwarding.
Watch this short video on calendar basics.
Create a Google+ post to me discussing the following questions: How is the school calendar different from your calendar? What is the purpose of creating multiple calendars for yourself? Do you want to share personal events with everyone? What are the different ways you can view a calendar? Which do you prefer and why? What is the default view set to for our school calendar on the school website home page? Give some examples of how Google calendars can help you in college or as an adult. Finally, create an event in the future(not today) with a location and invite me and your classmates to it.
